There are two types of military service in Kazakhstan: compulsory conscription and voluntary contract service.
Who can enter military service under a contract?
A candidate for voluntary military service must meet the following conditions:
- be a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- age not younger than 19 years (does not apply to cadets of military institutions) and not older than 5 years younger than the age limit for military service, depending on military rank;
- have a military accounting specialty corresponding to a military position;
- to complete military service either studied at the military department of the University, or underwent military training in specialized organizations of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the training of the military-trained reserve, with the exception of women.

Terms of service under the contract
There are the following terms of service under the contract:
- for 3 years;
- for 5 years;
- for 10 years before reaching the age limit for military service or for a period of study at a military educational institution.
The first contract is concluded for 3 years and after this period can be extended at your request for the above period.
How do I enroll in military service under a contract?
- To enroll in military service under a contract, you should apply to the department or Department of Defense Affairs at your place of residence.

Conclusion of the contract
The passage of voluntary military service implies the conclusion of a contract establishing mutual obligations and responsibilities between you and the military unit.
The contract is concluded in writing, drawn up in two copies and signed by the parties. One copy of the contract is transferred to the person who entered military service under the contract. The date specified in the contract and in the order on the appointment of a serviceman to a position is considered the beginning of the performance of official duties by a serviceman.
